Upgraded RAM on MacBook Pro – Geekbench Results

So today I received my memory upgrade kit from Crucial for my MacBook Pro. Initially when I bought the MBP I went with the stock memory and harddrive, knowing that I would upgrade these myself at a later date. Apple’s upgrades are too expensive.

A few months back I upgraded the 500GB 5400RPM stock hard drive for an 160GB Intel X25-M Mainstream SATA II Solid State Drive from Overclockers. This gave my MBP a considerable performance boost. Start up from cold boot used to take 47 seconds, with the SSD this has come down to just 17 seconds….amazing.

Now for the memory upgrade. Always knew I was going to upgrade from the standard 4GB to 8GB, however, finances meant I had to wait, that is until today. As I said I received my 8GB kit from Crucial, and installed the sticks straight away. Although I haven’t noticed any obvious performance gains, as I did with the SSD, I know it will be invaluable when it comes to photo editing and video editing using Photoshop and iMovie.

“hash” # key missing on Apple MacBookPro?

My first day on the Apple MacBook Pro and was playing around with ‘Numbers’ and wanted to insert the hash (#) symbol in the text. For the life of me I couldn’t see the symbol anywhere on the keys of the keyboard.

After playing around for a while, I finally found it. Alt + 3. Simple when your find it, but frustrating trying to look for it. I wonder how many other querks I’ll find in the next few weeks as I slowly transition from Windows to Mac.

Just to recap, Alt + 3 to enter the # symbol.

This may only be a April fools joke, but how cool would it be if someone did actually manufacture one of these devices.

I for one would definetely get an iPad just for this reason, especially if you could play Street Fighter, Mortal Combat or may be even Bubble Bobble.

Apple – Mac OS X Exposé

After you activate Exposé (with F9 or F3) you can use –>| key to step through different applications.

Exposé will shuffle the windows around to highlight just the open windows that belong to one application at a time.

Apple – iPhoto Events

Change this in Preferences to weekly so that your holiday pics are grouped together.
